Detroit, MI (1660 THE FAN) - The Tigers won their four game series against the Los Angeles Angels, winning 5-1. Max Scherzer was able to strike out nine and received help from Cabrera and Avila when they secured a few homeruns. For an end of game Tigers score update, text SCORES to 80373
The Tigers, who have had 10 wins out of the last 12 games, had let a few games slip under .500 before the All-Star break. Scherzer only gave up a single run, which was MIke Trout’s homer in the sixth inning. In addition to that he had given up three hits and four walks over seven innings. Prince Fielder was able to score a double in the second inning, sending one down the left-field line. Fielder also scored a run from Jhonny Peralta’s two-out double, with Avila making it -30 on the next pitch, making it his sixth home-run. Danny Worth had an RBI double which brought in Peralta for a four-run play in the fourth, with Cabrera knocking out his 21st homer bringing the score to 5-0 in the fifth.
For the Angels, Mike Trout struck out swinging against Scherzer, then scoring a homer in the sixth. This was his 14th homer for the season, scoring in 11 straight games. Jerome Williams let a few more things slip than he ought to have, allowing five runs and nine hits over six innings.
