Mere hours after news broke that Pulp Fiction star Amanda Plummer had joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Wiress, Zap2It reported that the film had also finally found its golden goose: British star Sam Claflin will supposedly play Finnick Odair. If this news is correct, then every handsome 20-something actor in Hollywood can go back to petitioning for Christian Grey.
Claflin's may not be the biggest name attached to Odair, (Taylor Kitsch and Robert Pattinson were both in the rumor mill at one point) but the actor has certainly earned his blockbuster chops after starring in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman. Variety has confirmed that Claflin was on Lionsgate's shortlist to play Odair, with Melissa Leo being tossed around for his mentor, Mags.
In Suzanne Collins' trilogy, Odair is a former Hunger Games champion who befriends Katniss at the Quarter Quell. He's also kind of a prostitute. To date, Lionsgate has neither confirmed nor denied the casting rumors. Catching Fire is set to begin filming this summer, to arrive in theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.
