FORT WORTH, TX (1660 THE FAN) -- For the second year in a row, WMU senior quarterback Alex Carder is on the Davey O’Brien watch list. He is one of only two MAC quarterbacks to be up for the nation’s oldest and most prestigious award given out to signal callers.
In 2011, Carder shattered WMU passing records with 3,873 total yards in his junior season. That total included two record setting individual game performances by Carder, throwing 479 yards at Connecticut and 548 at Toledo. Carder’s seven touchdown game at Toledo was also a new Bronco record, and tied a MAC record for touchdowns in a game.
Carder is one of seven quarterbacks up for the award that are not in BCS automatic-qualifying conferences. He joins teammates Johnnie Simon and Kevin Galeher on the list of Broncos on 2012 preseason watch lists.
Combined with a Selection Committee process, the Davey O’Brien Award incorporates a Fan Vote, which accounts for 5% during each round of voting. Starting September 4th, fans are encouraged to cast their vote here.
