LANSING (WKZO) -- A special primary election to determine who will fill Thaddeus McCotter's vacated U.S. House Seat in the 11th District until January, may be scrapped.  State election law states that if there are no candidates or only one in either party, the primary election is canceled.

Republican Nancy Cassis says that she may withdraw her candidacy to help save taxpayers the 650-thousand dollar tab of running a special election.  That would leave only Kerry Bentivolio in the running.

At the moment, no Democrats have tossed their hats into the ring.  Both Cassis and Bentivolio have said they intend to fun for the full two-year-term.
