CHICAGO, IL (1660 THE FAN) - Despite some iffy weather midway through the game, the skies stayed clear enough for Chicago to beat the Diamondbacks 4-1. Considering the team lost three straight games to Arizona last month at Chase Field in Phoenix, this 3-game series is off to a promising start.
Things started to look good for the Cubs during the bottom of the 3rd, when a grounder from Starlin Castro allowed Luis Valbuena to score. Arizona didn't manage to score until the top of the 7th (a homer from center-fielder Chris Young) at which point Chicago had already got two more runs in, courtesy of Alfonso Soriano and Darwin Barney.
Also notable was starting pitcher Ryan Dempster tying an old record for the Cubs. Dempster held a 33-inning scoreless streak, matching Ken Holtzman's streak in 1969.
The two teams face off again tomorrow at 1:45 PM on 1660 The Fan.
