HOLLAND TOWNSHIP (WKZO/WHTC) -- An Ottawa County man who set his landlord on fire could get life in prison.
Charges are expected to be upgraded from assault to open murder after the landlady who was set on fire by her tenant a week ago in Holland Township, has now died because of complications during surgery.
Davanh Phouangphet, 30, surrendered and was arrested soon after the incident. Friends and family say he has a history of mental health problems.
Phanh Kim Le, 53, had apparently complained about the suspect’s loud music and reportedly threatened to kick him out.
Police say he responded by dousing her with a flammable liquid and lighting it on fire.
