KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A man identified as 34-year-old Michael Lyle Adams of Galesburg has been killed after he confronted a Lawton police officer Wednesday morning with an assault rifle and a handgun.

It apparently began at about 3 a.m. when the officer pulled a car over in the 600-block of South Main for defective equipment.  There were four people in the vehicle at the time.  State Police Lieutenant Chuck Christensen says the driver jumped out with the weapons and the officer, out-gunned, fired and hit the suspect in the chest and killed him.

The man was being sought on a felony warrant issued in Kalamazoo County.  State police are investigating, questioning the others in the car, and doing a background check on the suspect.  No names have been released.
