DETROIT (WTAQ) - Free agent first baseman Prince Fielder is heading to Motown.
According to multiple reports, the Detroit Tigers have signed the former Milwaukee Brewer to a nine-year, $214 million contract. The deal is pending a physical.
Fielder is a career .282 hitter with 230 home runs in 7 seasons with the Crew.
The Washington Nationals were thought to be the front-runner to land Fielder, but the Tigers stepped in after losing catcher Victor Martinez to a recent knee injury. Martinez tore an ACL during conditioning and will miss the entire 2012 season.
