OXFORD, OH (WKZO) -- WMU hockey is looking for the split on the road, falling last night to Miami 3-1. They are currently second in the CCHA standings. A win combined with an Ohio State loss would lift them to the top spot in the conference.
First Period: Just like last night, Reilly Smith scored in the first period to give the Miami Red Hawks the 1-0 lead after one period of play in Oxford. Smith's goal came at the 12:13 mark of the frame. Just like last night, Western Michigan had a chance to even the score with a power play opportunity that came 40 seconds later on a roughing call on Tyler Biggs, the lone penalty in the period. The Broncos were unable to convert. Shots-on-goal favored the Broncos 8-6.
