SOUTH BEND, IN (WKZO) -- Notre Dame and Western Michigan split the last home-and-home series in late November. Going into this series, the two teams are tied for 2nd in the CCHA, and the first period ended in a 1-1 tie.
Dane Walters opened the scoring, lighting the lamp from a Chase Basily pass at the 3:42 mark in the first. Notre Dame would answer later in the period, Sam Calabrese scored at the 11:48 mark.
Shots on goal went to Notre Dame, 15-9. Both teams were whistled for 1 penalty each. Trevor Elias was called for tripping at the 5:48 mark. The Broncos killed off that power play chance. T.J. Tynan was called for roughing the goalie at the 19:42 mark.
Western starts the second period with the man advantage.
