KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Prosecutor Jeff Fink released the list of 9 felony charges that will be filed against 28-year old William Wright this morning, who reportedly shot at a Kalamazoo County Deputy Friday night because he didn’t want to go back to jail. The charges include attempted murder, gun felonies, fleeing an eluding, car theft and arson The arson follows an alleged fire set to the garage where William Wright was holed up in Portage, just before busting through the garage door in a stolen Ford Tempo. Ironically instead of avoiding prison, the list of charges means Wright could get up to a life sentence in prison if convicted.
Sheriff Richard Fuller also presented a play by play of the dash cam video, shown above, of the shooting of the officer and Wright's escape, which all took place within seconds. Sheriff Fuller says it showed how well trained Deputy Jeff Nichols and Reserve Officer Jeremy Conley were in their response. The reflexively were able to draw their guns and return fire within a fraction of a second of the first shots fired at Deputy Nichols.
It has also been revealed for the first time that there was a third passenger in the pick-up with the William and Christopher Wright. The identifying of this person is not being revealed at this time and currently is not facing charges.
