Power Play Goal Pulls Bulldogs Even After 2 Periods: 1-1


KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Western Michigan welcomes the top-ranked and defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs to Lawson Ice Arena for a weekend series. Last time these two teams met, Minnesota swept the Broncos in 2008.

1st Period: Chase Balisy scored at the 12:09 mark of the first period, giving Western Michigan a 1-0 lead after 1. The Broncos killed two Bulldog power plays while failing to score on two power play opportunities of their own. Shots-on-goal favor Western Michigan 8-7.

2nd Period: J.T. Brown netted a power play goal for Minnesota-Duluth at the 9:09 mark in the second period, tying the game at 1. Frank Slubowski recorded 11 saves in the period, 19 saves for the game. The Bulldogs are edging Western Michigan in shots-on-goal through two periods, 20-19. Western Michigan was whistled for two penalties. 2-minute minors on Matt Tennyson and Ian Slater. Minnesota-Duluth was whistled for a 2-minute minor penalty and a 10-minute game misconduct.
