KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Among the many routine items on the Kalamazoo City agenda last night to sell vacant lots, buy street lights and accept grants was a request to permit a pig to live in the city. Kalamazoo’s animal ordinance permits many animals to live in city limits as long as the meet certain ordinance requirements, but only the City Commission can approve what they call a pig pass and only after the owner meets certain requirements.
Last night Ms. Deborah Merrow got a permit to own a micro-mini pig which she plans to obtain from a breeder. She has a backyard on Long Road to let it run and play and a leash for walks and a special permit, suitable for framing.
