OTTAWA COUNTY (WKZO) -- Holland police have charged a local man with getting drunk and causing a a deadly collision early Wednesday that claimed the life of a teenager. They charge Eleazar Mendoza ignored a red blinking light at Pine Avenue and 17th Street and slammed into the driver’s side door of 18-year-old Bethany Rozema of Hamilton. She was rushed to Holland Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The 21-year-old Mendoza is charged with driving drunk causing death, a 15 year felony. Rozema’s dad, a serviceman stationed in Africa is returning home to make funeral arrangements.
