PORTAGE (WKZO) -- There has been a shake-up in the middle-management of the Portage Police Department after allegations of on-duty dalliances with waitresses, conduct unbecoming an officer, using departmental time and equipment for personal reasons and other issues that internal reports claim “destroyed the morale of the Department”.
Sgt. James Meyers was fired and Sgt. Doug Louis was allowed to resign after a series of warnings and issues, including a training trip to Traverse City that the department claims was turned into a vacation when the Sergeants invited their waitress friends to come with them. Meyer’s union has filed a grievance challenging his dismissal.
