U.S. Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney speaks during a rally in Greenville

DETROIT (WKZO) -- Michigan Democrats are reacting strongly to an op-ed piece by Mitt Romney in the "Detroit News" in which he defends his position on the GM and Chrysler Bankruptcies. He claims in the newspaper that he wanted to see the big three go thru a managed bankruptcy rather than a bailout.

Former Governor Jennifer Granholm calls the piece “shocking and misleading”.  Governor Granholm says the rescue loan was hardly a free ride and there was no financing coming from the private sector, because the banks were in turmoil. Congressman John Dingell says its just another Romney Flip-flop.   Granholm says without the president's actions, the auto industry and the nation's economy would be much worse.

Romney says he thinks the industry could have self-corrected and gotten better sooner without the bailout.
