KALAMAZOO (WKZO) --Heading down the home-stretch of the CCHA regular season, every point counts. Western Michigan made it count Friday night, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in overtime, 3-2 at Lawson Ice Arena. With the win, Western Michigan earns 3 points to remain 2 points back of Ferris State in the CCHA standings.

The Broncos first goal looked familiar to fans. With a 5 on 3 advantage in the second period, Dennis Brown faked a one-timer, sliding the puck to Matt Tennyson who away his 8th of the year, giving Western Michigan the lead, 1-0. The Buckeyes would tie the game at the 4:21 mark of the period when Cory Schneider lit the lamp with his 4th of the season. Kyle O’Kane broke the tie late in the period on a rebound. The Broncos went to the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

In the final frame, Brett Beebe was called for slashing at the 8:35 mark, and the Buckeyes would capitalize. Max McCormick scored under a minute into the penalty, knotting the game at 2.

The Bronco’s leading scorer was the hero in the extra session. Dane Walters scored with 1:40 left in overtime, lifting the Broncos to victory.

Western Michigan outshot Ohio State 37-25. Both teams scored once on power play opportunities.

The Broncos and Buckeyes will meet Saturday night at Lawson. Game time is 7 pm on 590 AM WKZO.
