KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of Besham Sugrim. He is charged with the killing of Linda Gibson, whose body was found a few blocks from his home in the Edison Neighborhood in 2003.
A pool of 140 potential jurors has gathered at the County Courthouse for what could be a lengthy trial. Sugrim is charged with first degree murder.
One of the main witnesses against Sugrim may be his wife, who says he confessed to the killing and another killing in New York in 1995. Police there confirm he is their prime suspect.
His wife waited nearly eight years after his confession to go to police, fearing for her own life and the life of their children. It was only after he was arrested and subsequently convicted of beating their daughter, and in jail that she felt safe enough to come forward.
