BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- Two Battle Creek scrappers could face criminal prosecution and restitution for the latest oil spill on the Kalamazoo River.
The DNR has been investigating what turned out to be a home heating oil dump into a storm sewer, that made its way to the river. Apparently the men found a heating oil tank in an old home, dumped the oil and scrapped the tank. Now there is an oil slick on the river stretching all the way into Kalamazoo County, and DNR officials have deployed booms, and are working on the clean-up. There’s no telling how much the remediation may cost, but it was all for a few bucks for the metal tank.
