Loy Norrix used a big third quarter to run away from Cassopolis 70-37 in the first game of the Holiday Hoops Invitational at Loy Norrix High School on Thursday night. The Knights outscored Cassopolis 33-6 in the third quarter to blow open a game that was only a nine point spread at halftime. The Knights’ high pressure defense forced the Rangers into constant turnovers, which gave Loy Norrix the chance to get out and score in transition.
The third quarter spurt wasn’t the only big run in the game. Leading by one midway through the first quarter Loy Norrix ended the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 10 point lead. Leading the first half charge was Davian Phillips who scored 11 points in the first quarter and had 17 before halftime. Phillips ended with 19 for the game.
Leading all scorers on the night was Knight’s star Bishop Robinson who scored 24 points. He found himself in the middle of both big runs in the game. He scored nine in the first quarter while doing the rest of his damage in the third quarter. His 15 points fueled the charge that put away the Rangers for good. The Rangers were led by Junior Center Lynell Ballard who scored 12 points in the game.
Loy Norrix will now play in the Championship game Friday night against U-D Jesuit. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 tip.
