Flu cases in Michigan on the rise early and in big numbers

by
As you can see in this MDCH chart that tracks flu cases for the last three years, the red and blue lines, which represent the last two years follow a roughly similar pattern. The black line, which represents this year shows a lot more cases are appearing a lot earlier in the season.

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- State Health officials are continuing to track a big spike in Flu cases in Michigan and are citing the death of an infant from Kalamazoo County, and an adolescent from central Michigan as incentives for getting a flu shot.

Linda Vail the Director of Kalamazoo County’s Health and Human services Department can only release so much information on the infant, because they don’t have autopsy results back yet. She says those most at risk are those who have chronic health problems, the very young and the very old..

She says state Health officials are right, get a flu shot, wash your hands frequently, stay away from people who appear to be ill, and stay home if you get sick.
