Holiday Hoops Action

Local Holiday Basketball Tournament
Local Holiday Basketball Tournament

Local High School basketball teams have always taken a break from their normal schedules over the holiday break, and some will then compete in holiday tournaments and invitationals.  This year is no different with plenty of good holiday basketball action to see around this area.  Here is a look at all the local action this week.

Don Jackson Holiday Classic @ Kalamazoo Central

This has become one of the top places to watch great high school talent from around the state over the Holiday break.  For a few years now K-Central has been bringing in great teams from around the state to compete in a one day showcase.  It doesn’t change this year.  The second game features Jackson and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills who defeated the Giants last week.  In the third game defending Class B state champion Lansing Sexton will face Class C state power River Rouge.  Sexton features big man Jalen Hayes who has already committed to play at Oakland next year.  In the final game K-Central will face talent packed Lansing Eastern.  Eastern brings to the table three players who could be playing college basketball next year, two of which could be at the division one level.  Charles Tucker is listed on rivals.com website as a three star prospect choosing between a number of smaller D-1 schools including Kent State, Toledo and Jacksonville State.  Their other guard is Fredrick Edmond who reportedly is being looked at by schools such as Butler, Cincinnati and Dayton.
