Snow storms miss Kalamazoo, chances of White Christmas very low

KALAMAZOO (WKZO) --It was a winter storm but once again for the most part, the Kalamazoo area dodged the snow.

This time the worst of the weather went up north where it not only knocked out power to tens of thousands, it lit up the faces of northern Michiganders who really depend on snow this time of the year for their economy.

Tony Kaly who runs the Sugarbowl Restaurant in Gaylord says they have been without snow until now and business has been down.

In southwest Michigan, we won’t even get a White Christmas out of this storm and while that will make travel for the rest of the holiday easier, some would put up with a little inconvenience just for tradition’s sake.

To the south in Cass County it was a much sadder story whereShawnette Baker found her aunt trapped in the rubble of her home after a huge tree blew over onto the home near Niles. She was screaming for help. Firefighters were able to free the older woman who suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Baker says it’s the second tragedy the family has suffered this week.

Her dad died last weekend and they have been having trouble raising the cash for a funeral. Everyone else in the home at the time managed to escape unharmed but two puppies remain missing.
