RICHLAND (WKZO) -- A 14-year-old Gull Lake Student who was expelled last year when he brought a gun to school will be allowed to come back to class, but only under very specific conditions.
After a meeting that lasted nearly 4-1/2 hours, most of it behind closed doors, Trustees announced that the boy will only be allowed to attend Gateway Academy Alternative School, and only after he has cleared a risk assessment.
He will be banned from other school properties, and from school transportation until 2013, and he will have to sign a behavior contract.
During public comment, half a dozen parents rose to speak against reinstatement and 3 urged the board to give the boy a second chance.
Ironically three police officers were dispatched to dissuade violence, should an unpopular decision be made.
