BALDWIN (WKZO) -- There is hope the former state prison in Baldwin could soon be housing state inmates after being privatized seven years ago. A Senate bill passed during the lame duck session of the state Legislature would let the state Department of Corrections set up contracts with private prisons if it will save the state at least five-percent of the costs to house the inmates in state facilities. The Baldwin facility is the only privately run prison in Michigan.
