DETROIT (WKZO) -- Michigan has seen a steady decline in the number of police officers since 2001, due mostly to cutbacks.

According to Fred Timpner, the executive director of the Michigan Association of Police, the state has seen a steady decline due to cutbacks, layoffs and attrition.  The state's law enforcement ranks have dropped from roughly 22,400 officers in 2001 to just over 18,800 as of October 31st of this year.

According to officials, while the state's economic outlook is positive, more cuts among law enforcement officials are expected.
