KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo City Commission will hold a Public Hearing this evening on their 2013 general fund budget. The 53-milion dollar spending plan is down from last year, as the city has offered early retirement incentives to help reduce the staff by 100, and trim the budget by 6 Million over a 3-year-period.
City Manager Ken Collard says it will result in a staff that won’t be able to do some things as quickly as they used to, but will maintain essential services.
He says they have another 4-million dollar crisis looming in the future, due in part to loss in revenue from the Personal Property Tax.That is a problem they have yet to address.
