PORTAGE (WKZO) -- An arbitrator has ruled that a married Portage Police Sergeant who was fired for carrying on an affair while on duty should be reinstated.
Portage Public Safety Chief Richard White doesn’t want Sergeant James Meyers back, however, and has appealed the arbitrator’s decision to the Kalamazoo Circuit Court. In the meantime, Meyer has not returned to work.
The internal investigation showed that Meyer would spend time while on duty at the home of the woman he was seeing, and used his city issued cell phone and internet account to further the relationship. Chief White says he isn’t sure when the court will rule.
