LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says he will sign a measure that would make the state the nation's 24th right-to-work state.
The governor made the announcement during a news conference Thursday morning and called the legislation a "workplace fairness and equity" bill. The law would cover the public and private sectors with the exception of police and firefighters.
Union members and activists converged on Lansing earlier this week in anticipation of the legislation being introduced. Leaders of Michigan State AFL-CIO union are asking legislators to put the measure on a future ballot for a statewide vote.
Governor Snyder says he wants the bill approved and on his desk in the next few days.
