BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- Police have released the names of the two men involved in a violent confrontation during an attempted robbery at the Liberty Mart Convenience store in Battle Creek.

Police say Michael Honyoust was on parole for a home invasion and arson in Midland County when he walked in, apparently intending to rob the store Monday afternoon. Police say he brandished a knife, but clerk Pardeep Singh had a hand gun behind the counter and he used it to shoot Honyoust twice.

Honyoust is in critical condition at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Singh’s actions will be reviewed by the Prosecutor’s office.
