BANGOR TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A Bangor man who was taking advantage of the nice weather to ride his motorcycle had his leg sheared off below the knee when he collided with a van in Bangor Township yesterday [tue] afternoon.

Van Buren County Deputies say 44-year-old Mark Watkins had stopped at the stop sign at CR 687 and 48th Avenue and just did not see 62-year-old Charles Meachum approaching the intersection on his Yamaha two-wheeler.

Besides the spontaneous amputation, Meachum also suffered multiple broken ribs, a broken left arm, multiple lacerations & bruises. He was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for emergency surgery and is was last listed in Critical Condition. Alcohol was not a factor.
