KANSAS CITY (1660 THE FAN) –Anibel Sanchez was arguably at his best Wednesday night in Kansas City. He found a groove early, and recorded seven innings in his second straight quality start. Recording a single strikeout, Sanchez did not issue a walk. He gave up seven hits, including the game-winning single to Eric Hosmer in the fourth inning as the Royals shut out the Tigers 1-0. Sanchez finished the game with a season high 119 pitches.

Bruce Chen had Detroit’s number all night, striking out four with four hits and a walk in eight innings in the shutout. Eight innings was his longest outing of the year, and Chen earned his 10th win of 2012.

Detroit had their chances in the late frames to crack the scoreboard, leaving six runners on base, finishing 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Chasing the White Sox in the AL Central, the Tigers fall three games back as Chicago defeated Baltimore 8-1. Detroit is two games back in the Wild Card standings.

Rick Porcello is scheduled to make the start in the series finale Thursday night. Game time on AM 590 WKZO is 8:10 pm.
