TAMPA BAY (WKZO) -- Given that we already know the outcome of the Republican Convention, the biggest news coming out of Tampa Bay has been Tropical Storm Isaac, which is now forcing the GOP to modify plans for the gathering this week.
The event was scheduled to get underway Monday but with the storm expected to grow to a full-fledged hurricane as it approaches Florida organizers have decided to err on the side of caution. Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus made the announcement Saturday saying "Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention is going to briefly convene on Monday August 27th and then immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon."
Priebus says party officials are working with Florida state officials and emergency management to ensure the safety of everyone attending the convention.
WKZO and the Midwest Communications stations will have our own team in Tampa Bay to cover the Michigan Delegation and the convention, the only news organization in Kalamazoo to send our own crew.
