KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- It’s been the worst year yet for West Nile virus with over 600 cases now reported nationwide, most of them in the Deep South. Over the weekend they used aerial spraying in Texas to attack the mosquito population there.

They have seen a few non-lethal cases in Kent and Allegan Counties butKalamazoo County’s Health and Human Services director, Linda Vail says they have had no reports. She says she has seen nothing to indicate it will be  worse this year.

Drought conditions in South West Michigan have greatly reduced the available breeding spaces for mosquitoes. Now that its rained it may become more of a problem as we head toward September.
