DETROIT (WKZO) – The Tigers were locked in an unlikely pitchers’ duel with the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday, as it took an sixth inning three-run home run off the bat of Baltimore’s Chris Davis to give the O’s a 3-2 win.

Rick Porcello took the mound for Detroit, and had a shot at a very strong start through six innings. In the seventh, though, Porcello saw only four batters, allowing two to get on base before giving up the crucial home run to Davis.

The Tigers responded in the eighth, sending two runs across the plate on a two-out Jhonny Peralta single, although poor base running left Peralta caught in a run down between first and second base. However, the late inning heroics fell short, and an afternoon game on Sunday will be necessary to decide which team will win this series.

The silver lining for the Tigers is that Chicago also lost, meaning that Detroit will lose no ground in the AL Central.

Porcello gets the loss in Saturday’s game, dropping his record to 9-8 on the season. Baltimore’s Zach Britton gets the win after shutting out the Tigers through seven innings of work, moving his record to 2-1 on the year.

The final game of the series will feature Doug Fister facing off against Baltimore’s Wei-Yin Chen. First pitch is at 1:10, and can be heard on AM 590 WKZO.
