COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP  (WKZO) -- A Van Buren County man is dead after a tree-cutting accident in Columbia Township. Deputies say the 44-year-old man was cutting down trees in his yard when a falling tree unexpectedly knocked off the branch of another tree and it struck him in the head.

It happened at about 2PM Saturday at a property in the 47-thousand block of County Road 388. The name of the man is not being released until all family members are notified.

His wife began immediate first aid to address a bleeding head wound. The first EMT’s on the scene called for an air-ambulance and he was flown to Bronson Methodist, where he was initially admitted in critical condition but later pronounced dead.
