VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) -- He says he fell asleep at the wheel of his box truck and crashed into the rear of a semi-along I-94 friday morning just east of Paw Paw. He will survive to talk about it but not before spending some time in recovery and therapy.

Van Buren County Deputies say it occurred on the interstate near CR 653 in Antwerp Township, about 10:40 in the morning.  50-Year-old Paul Erickson of Grand Rapids doesn’t remember crushing the front end of his truck into the back of the other truck, totaling both of them, and presumes he fell asleep.

He was cited for careless driving. He is being treated at Bronson Hospital.The other driver, Jose Mendoza of Bolingbrook Illinois complained of some back and neck pain but sought his own treatment.
