NEW YORK (WKZO) -- Most work on a new Alzheimer's drug is at a standstill after the medicine failed a test. Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Elan Corp. were the companies developing the drug designed to slow the disease.
Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson said this week that the medicine failed to improve the symptoms of Alzheimer's in a final-stage trial. Other efforts to find an Alzheimer's drug are showing mixed results.
An experimental drug from Eli Lilly failed tests in 2010, prompting a halt to development. A second medication from Lilly is being tested.
