DETROIT (WKZO) -- U.S. Representative Candice Miller is praising a decision by the Pentagon to abandon plans to close several U.S. bases.
Miller said in a statement on Tuesday that Selfridge Air National Guard Base, in Macomb County, could have been targeted for closure. On Monday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made it clear that the Pentagon will not seek approval from Congress for another round of base realignment and closures.
In May, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved a defense bill that reversed planned cuts at Selfridge and other bases across the country.
