PORAGE (WKZO) -- Two shoplifters are in custody after they led police on a high speed chase from Three Rivers to southern Portage, reaching speeds of 100-MPH as they fled north. Three others remain missing.
The chase began after they were caught at the Meijer in Three Rivers, jumped into a red Pontiac Mini-van and headed toward Kalamazoo with the police in pursuit.
Speeds reportedly got up to 100mph. After stop strips blew out one of the van’s tires near Sugarloaf Lake, the occupants of the van abandoned it and headed into the woods. Tracking dogs were deployed and two suspects were taken into custody. The three other suspects managed to escape, at least for now.
The pair in custody are expected to face multiple counts in two counties.
