KALAMAZOO (WKZO) – Already trailing in the series, the Kalamazoo Wings found themselves down 1-0 after two periods with the Florida Everblades at home. A ferocious third period turned the game in the Wings favor, finishing Florida off 3-2.
Through the first 40 minutes, Florida was leading in most categories, including 30-7 in shots-on-goal. Penalties were the stat in the second period with six combined whistles. Neither team capitalized on their power play opportunities in the middle frame. Florida finished the game 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
Kory Karlander tied the game on Kalamazoo’s lone power play goal of the game, tying the game at 1. Darren Archibald gave the K-Wings the lead two minutes later with his first goal of the postseason, and Dustin Cloutier lit the lamp with his fourth goal of the playoffs at the 15:01 mark to seal the victory. Just as the Everblades had pounded shots at Riley Gill in the first two periods, the K-Wings finished the final frame with 12 shots-on-goal, scoring on their first two attempts. Gill finished with 36 saves.
The best-of-seven series now shifts to Florida for Games 3, 4, and 5. If necessary Game 6 will be in Kalamazoo on May 8th.
