HARTFORD TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies say a man died early Sunday morning after a crash along Red Arrow Highway near 62nd Street.
Deputies say the 61-year old driver from the South Haven area was westbound when he crossed the centerline just before midnight, shot across the opposite traffic lane, into a plowed field where his P.T. Cruiser rolled over 4 to 5 times. The vehicle was found 50 feet from the roadway.
The driver managed to crawl from the wreckage, and was awake and lucid when Deputies arrived. He told them he had crawled out of the window of the shattered vehicle. He told them he wasn't wearing a seat belt and his air bags did not deploy.
He was taken to the ER in Waterviliet and then airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he was later pronounced dead from internal injuries. His name hasn’t been released.
