INGHAM COUNTY (WKZO) -- Picking up road kill was one of the first items to get cut when road commissions and cities were forced to find places to save money, despite citizen complaints. Beginning Monday Ingham County Judges will be able to assign criminal defendants to a Dead Animal Recovery Team. “DART” for short. Sheriff Gene Wiggleworth says they will be using an old truck so the only cost will be the gas and the safety gear.
He says their goal will be to retrieve the carcasses before they are just a dark spot on the road, and send a message to violators that if they don’t want to be scraping up skunk guts the rest of their life, they should stay out of trouble.
