Kanye West liked it, so he put some earrings on it.
Kim Kardashian doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to relationships, but it seems her rapper beau is making her more than willing to give love yet another (painful) shot. The 31-year-old star was seen sporting a pair of gold and diamond earrings with West's initials on them, while making her way through LAX airport on April 22.
And while it's not uncommon for celebrities to publicly flaunt their relationships in some form or another, it is a rather unique way to go about it. And I can't help but wonder what does it really mean?
Normally, Hollywood protocol dictates that celebs show affection toward their loved ones in a much more permanent way with ink. Johnny Depp took it upon himself to get the words ""Winona Forever"" tattooed across his arm while dating Winona Ryder. (He later changed the lettering to read ""Wino Forever"").
Angelina Jolie also likes to ink herself with representations of her leading men. She had a tattoo on her left arm that read ""Billy Bob"" which was removed shortly after her divorce to Billy Bob Thorton. She now has her husband-to-be Brad Pitt's birthplace coordinates tattooed on her upper left arm.
And who could forget Kat Von D's tacky bold idea to tattoo a replication of Jessie James' fifth grade school picture underneath her left armpit.
It's not the most conventional way to show someone you care, but it's become a bit of a staple among the celeb community. So what does it mean when Kim Kardashian the ultimate Queen of the Overstatement chooses to display her affections with a mere piece of jewelry? It's not a permanent gesture like so many of the other stars chose to do, but then again, most of those relationships met an unfortunate end regardless.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think this is one of the first times a Kardashian has decided to opt for subtlety (two words I never thought would appear in the same sentence together). Perhaps these two are actually the smart ones, residing not to make any rash decisions regarding commitment before either of them is ready. Granted, accessories with initials on them is a little too middle school for my taste, but it's a much more logical step than tattoos or 20.5-carat engagement rings.
You heard it here first, folks initials are in, tattoos are out.
