Sheridan lands re-trial date

The actress launched a legal battle against the TV drama's creator Marc Cherry and executives at Touchstone Television Production after claiming her character was killed off because she complained to producers about an incident that took place between herself and Cherry, during which the writer/producer allegedly struck her.

She was seeking $6 million (GBP3.75 million) in damages.

Last month (Mar12) the writer and the TV bosses testified in court that the decision to axe Sheridan's character, Edie Britt, was made months before the alleged incident but Los Angeles Superior Court jury members failed to reach a verdict and the case was declared a mistrial by Judge Elizabeth White. A battery charge against Cherry was also tossed out.

Not satisfied by the inconclusive ruling, Sheridan's lawyers have been campaigning for the chance to present the case again, and, on Wednesday (18Apr12), White granted the actress a re-trial date of 10 September (12).

White also encouraged both parties to meet and try to reach an out-of-court settlement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
