COVERT (WKZO) -- The Palisades Nuclear Plant closed on Easter, but it wasn’t for the holiday. It was for a planned refueling and maintenance outage. When the auto-plants close for retooling and maintenance, most of the workers go home. When a nuclear plant does the same, workers flood in. It’s estimated that 1,165 additional workers will be brought in to assist the permanent staff.
They will be inspecting the reactor vessel head, replacing five rod seals and 64 rod assemblies, inspecting the moisture separator, and reheater heat exchangers and inspecting the plant’s two steam generators.
They aren’t saying how long it will take to complete the job.
