KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Kalamazoo man is being held without bond, and faces federal fraud charges for his role in a complicated mortgage scheme, but that’s just one of a list of crimes Mark Maurer may have committed.
The judge cited a history of missed court appearances after drunken automobile crashes, and a recent divorce and the fact that Mauer was making his living allegedly printing up phony payroll checks for denying bond. He also bragged to the officers who arrested him that he might flee.
Maurer has been indicted for wire fraud, mail fraud and making false statements charges. Federal prosecutors say Maurer fleeced at least three people out of 130-thousand dollars in that mortgage scheme. His trial date is scheduled in November.
