KALAMAZOO TWP (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Township trustees stand behind the assertion more money is needed if the township is going to continue to provide basic services. The township has lost money from the state, from lost local industries and lower property taxes.
Trustees have proposed a tax hike of just under two mils to cover it. When it came up for a vote earlier this month, the board room filled with opponents who said the board should either live within its means, or at the very least, put the question to the voters to decide.
Township officials said it's too late for the November ballot this year, and they don't want to have the added expense of a special election.
A second public hearing to discuss the issue was scheduled for Monday evening.
