COVERT (WKZO) -- For the second time in as many weeks, the Palisades Nuclear Plant has automatically scrammed because of an equipment failure.
A week ago Friday, it was a faulty valve in the reactor cooling system that prompted the reactor to shut down. Sunday, it was a circuit breaker in the plant’s electrical control circuits that tripped.
The plant has back up circuits that were used to switch off the reactor.
Plant spokesman Mark Savage said it happened at about 3:10PM at the facility in Covert. plant personnel are assessing the problem.
The plant is expected to return to service as soon as they find the problem and do testing.
