KANSAS CITY, MO (WKZO) - It was the Detroit version of the "Trifecta"- Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, and Jose Valverde- that did in the pesky Kansas City Royals Wednesday night. Oh, and the Tigers' bats helped, too. Don Kelly went 3-5, scoring the tying run on a Victor Martinez single in the 7th inning, and then hitting an exclamation point 2-run home run in the 8th, as the Tigers split the short series with the Royals, 6-3. The Tigers, now with 90 wins, will finish the regular season at Comerica Park, as they host Baltimore. Game one of the series is Thursday night, with broadcast time on AM 590 WKZO set for 6:40 pm. One somber note for Tiger fans- it has been announced that, yes, Brad "The Bad" Penny will start the game on Sunday for Detroit. Candles will be lit all over Tigerland very soon.
